Experience
I have home schooled both my sons, teaching them from kindergarten to 8th grade and GED for my youngest (through high school). I have tutored high school, full-time during school term and summer school in the classroom and individually or in small groups the following subjects: Geometry, Financial Literacy, Statistics, Algebra I and Algebra II. I was a full-time substitute at the middle- and high-school levels for subjects including: Career Development, World History, various math and science and study skills. My graduate degree (Master of Science, Biology) is from New Mexico State University where I studied Evolutionary Ecology, Biogeography, Population Genetics, Soil Classification, as well as teaching General Biology: Life Sciences and Botany. My field experience has been in plant sciences; plant physiology, plant ecology and ecological site descriptions, rare plant surveying, plant identification, herbarium management. I love learning, but there's a trick to it. I can help make learning fun and rewarding for most anyone.

Hobbies
Because I study plants, you probably know that I love hiking, gardening and photography. I also love color (flowers, right?) so I make jewelry, decorate and cook. I'm a vegetarian, so cooking what I grow is a very satisfying feeling. Plus, my dogs love the garden... they dig when I dig and they "plant" stuff. I love to hang out with people who do completely different work than I do because I love what they can teach me. I love to go to art shows and festivals and I understand why people think they don't understand math, but we use math every day, in every way... and I love it when my students realize that. My favorite thing, though, is to see the light bulb come on in someone's eyes when they "get it". Eureka!
